A Day Trip to Snowdonia ft. Electric Mountain

Image
At the beginning of September my dad suggested we take a little day trip down to Snowdonia and visit the electric mountain. Our day began on the Sunday at 7 A.M. ready to travel 2/3 hours down to the land of the Welsh (if you do not know this is the one out of two favourite places my family visits). Soon enough we were in Llanberis, for the tour of the Electric Mountain (Dinorwig Power Station). Dinorwig Power Station is located within the mountain and is a major hydro electric power station which took over 10 years to build until it was opened in 1984. The power station is essential to the moments where there is an up-rise in the use of electricity in Britain, for example 'when we all decide to make a cup of tea' (this phrase was used on numerous occasions during the tour). It was a very pleasant experience as the staff there were all friendly and entertaining. We were taken via a bus under the mountain and had several chances to get off the bus and see the works of what happe...

Family Holiday: The part we loved

Image
After my previous post on our family holiday it would only seem fitting to write about what happened next. If you haven't come across this post you can find it here . So, we ended up in Cornwall, hoorah! After an early morning start and several hours travelling we arrived in the camp-site which we have stayed in for 3 years now. The camp-site is called Cambrose Touring Park and is a lovely, friendly environment. The weather was great when we arrived so it was straight off to the beach at Portreath, which as you can imagine was rather packed considering but was still a lovely place! The Camp-site For the evening we travelled down to St. Ives. St. Ives is a lovely little town which is very popular in the summer. It has a lovely beach on one side which is right next to the town that can be accessed via two alternative routes, one of which being along a coastal path. St. Ives is definitely a place to visit if you're ever down in Cornwall, not to forget the amount of sea...

Ales in Dorset

Image
As previously mentioned I went on holiday to Weymouth not too long ago. Whilst in Weymouth we visited the various supermarkets and purchased quite a few different ales. I never usually drink ale, more of a lager person and ales are something that as a family we indulge in. Who doesn't love a good beer or four on holiday?! (we're not alcoholics I swear). So I thought I'd share a few of the several we came across, I know these aren't Dorset specific as I have seen a few in supermarkets near me. But enjoy! Ale #1: 'Juarassic' - I've mentioned before I'm quite obsessed with this era so of course as soon as this was spotted we had to get it. It was lovely nonetheless. Ale #2: 'Exmoor Beast' - This one was quite a strong ale in both flavour and percentage. It had quite a kick to it which definitely lives up to it's name! Ale #3: 'Fursty Ferret' - I love the name this has and no the ale is not made from ferrets... ...

Family Holiday

Image
For the past few years my father, siblings and I go on a camping holiday down south to Cornwall, nothing too fancy but we enjoy it. This year my dad wanted to go somewhere different so he decided Weymouth. We knew it would be different, perhaps in a good way, because we didn't know any of the places around Dorset. I was quite excited because of the 'Jurassic Coast' line around Weymouth and its surroundings because I'm quite into all that prehistoric jazz. So, we set off on the Sunday and immediately the signs were showing, even the Sat-Nav took us to the borders of East Devon (there is an alternate route to Weymouth but we went the long way around). Not to mention the horrendous rain we encountered! Eventually we arrived, the camp-site didn't look to bad and we were pitched up and unpacked. Dinner all sorted and it was time to explore Weymouth! With the rain cleaning up a little we headed into the town and had a little wander. Of course there were amusements, which...

River Severn Way Walk

Image
Yet another sunny day came around leaving myself and Sarah with the urge to explore across the way. Where would we end up today and goodness knows how far we'd end up. We took the road down town and across the river taking the pathway alongside the river (of course). This pathway was adjacent to the racecourse which was on the other side of the river. Initially the pathway begins alongside gardens coming almost onto the river, and they were very nice gardens indeed. So after this lovely open viewed walk it begins to go into woodlands/forest areas. Now if you are easily freaked, this would be a great place to express your fear. However, it was a rather beautiful trail, as Sarah put it 'like walking through the rainforest', thinking some animal would jump out at her (this is the girl who got freaked by cows, lovely girl really). So as the pathway goes on we came across several wrecked boats, and a gathering of old items on the bank (it looked kinda creepy). Then around the co...

Weston Super Mare

Image
On the 28th of June my father took me and my siblings out for the day for my birthday. It was a wonderful day even though the weather was atrocious at the beginning of the day. They picked me up from Worcester and we travelled down to Weston Super Mare. It was around about 11ish by the time we arrived and we had a wonderful sandwich/panini from a lovely little cafe along the seafront. We then made way up to the Grand Pier, to which my father was unconvinced it would cost £1 to get on, he believed me when he saw it though. Due to my brothers fascination in amusements we then proceeded into the building on the pier and lost quite a lot of money... Standard really.  On the pier they have an American milkshake diner which was too hard to avoid with these lot! We had a nice little wonder around the pier and then across near to the harbour for a while until returning to the car. Then headed round a few miles to a beach just on the outskirts of Weston Super Mare. The beach ...

Healthy is the New Skinny

Image
There are several things that tick my nerve, but one thing that really infuriates me is when people decided it's okay to shame on the way individual's bodies are (shape and size). I think it is really disgusting how people think saying negative things about the way people look will achieve anything other than causing that individual to be in pain. Sometimes even the case where the individual will have that comment played over and over for several years to come. I know they say 'Sticks and stones' etc, but harsh words stick, and they stick for a long time. Before I attended University, I was never really the healthiest person (even though I am vegetarian) and fair enough I wasn't exactly the smallest of people either. In fact, the first year of University went so downhill for my health and appearance, it was bad... However, last summer I made a change. I decided to be a better, fitter, healthier person. Yet still I'm not exactly the best looking figure around, ...
