To the North Welsh Coast and Back

Image
Bank holiday travels are mostly fun in any other time of the year that isn't December, particularly with extremely windy and wet weather. Despite the struggle to walk through the wind we managed to make the most of a day trip to Barmouth and back through Llangollen. Early start to the day, as per usual, arriving in Barmouth around half past ten and the chilly sea breeze was felt straight away. Barmouth is a lovely little town on the north west coast of Wales with beautiful buildings and a magnificent view of the mountain range with Cadair Idris in sight.  Besides the slightly run down amusements (where barely anything worked) there is little to do during the Winter in Barmouth. There were a few shops open and we had a look around the round house before going to The Last Inn which is a Marstons pub on the harbour. The place opened at midday and by the time we got there at quarter past twelve it was almost full! We did manage to f...

Turn that frown upside down

Image
Today I'd thought I would share with y'all a few things I do when I'm feeling low, especially in stressful times attempting to sort life out and complete assignments. 1) CATS. I love cats (You'll be able to tell from the following photos). Living away from home means I don't get to see my cats when I want, so I look at photos or videos that I have taken of my deranged cats, in particular Bellatrix the disturbed kitten. I will also search on Facebook, Twitter, Vine and Instagram for cute/funny cat videos. After all there are so many videos out there it's hard not to stumble across them on social media! Bellatrix Oliver Star Comet  2) PEOPLE. It is important to talk to people and not to isolate yourself. I often find myself spending hours by myself and then realise I haven't had any social interaction for that day and that can impact my mood quite a bit. So, I then try and find someone to talk to and hope there is someone around. Br...

Studying at University: maintaining a healthy wellbeing.

How to maintain a healthy wellbeing whilst completing assignments at University. Most of you who have been to University may study courses that require a lot of reading of journal articles and books etc. Whether these are simply extras to extend knowledge or specifically for assignments, quite often you will find yourself spending a lot of time on computers/laptops. To make sure that you can get the best out of studying whilst on the computer make sure to take regular breaks away from the computer evry couple of hours or so. Make sure to not be too close to the computer and have the screen brightness turned down. Just remember that it is important to not overdo the work  and work yourself too much. Just a friendly reminder to keep yourself safe and healthy when doing University work. Remember to take regular breaks and enjoy the time while you can. Peace out!

Gretna Green: The village of runaway lovers.

What originally planned to be a mid October holiday turned into a very successful wedding. When I first found out my mum was getting married I was quite shocked, but happy for her. After going through my parents being divorced I never really thought that either one would be married again. However, this appears to be what makes my mum happy so I am happy for that. Then it also dawned on me I would have a step father, never did I think that was going to happen but it has and does not really feel much different to be honest. Anyway, to the wedding. A mildly spontaneous idea planned two months in advance in a place 176 miles away from my home town, with several diversions on the way. Gretna Green is just on the borders of the South end of Scotland and not too far away from Cumbria (which is where some of my mum's family live). I thank fully travelled back to my home town the day before which cut out some 70 odd extra miles. 6 A.M start up to Cumbria to visit relatives throughout the who...

A Day Trip to Snowdonia ft. Electric Mountain

Image
At the beginning of September my dad suggested we take a little day trip down to Snowdonia and visit the electric mountain. Our day began on the Sunday at 7 A.M. ready to travel 2/3 hours down to the land of the Welsh (if you do not know this is the one out of two favourite places my family visits). Soon enough we were in Llanberis, for the tour of the Electric Mountain (Dinorwig Power Station). Dinorwig Power Station is located within the mountain and is a major hydro electric power station which took over 10 years to build until it was opened in 1984. The power station is essential to the moments where there is an up-rise in the use of electricity in Britain, for example 'when we all decide to make a cup of tea' (this phrase was used on numerous occasions during the tour). It was a very pleasant experience as the staff there were all friendly and entertaining. We were taken via a bus under the mountain and had several chances to get off the bus and see the works of what happe...

Family Holiday: The part we loved

Image
After my previous post on our family holiday it would only seem fitting to write about what happened next. If you haven't come across this post you can find it here . So, we ended up in Cornwall, hoorah! After an early morning start and several hours travelling we arrived in the camp-site which we have stayed in for 3 years now. The camp-site is called Cambrose Touring Park and is a lovely, friendly environment. The weather was great when we arrived so it was straight off to the beach at Portreath, which as you can imagine was rather packed considering but was still a lovely place! The Camp-site For the evening we travelled down to St. Ives. St. Ives is a lovely little town which is very popular in the summer. It has a lovely beach on one side which is right next to the town that can be accessed via two alternative routes, one of which being along a coastal path. St. Ives is definitely a place to visit if you're ever down in Cornwall, not to forget the amount of sea...

Ales in Dorset

Image
As previously mentioned I went on holiday to Weymouth not too long ago. Whilst in Weymouth we visited the various supermarkets and purchased quite a few different ales. I never usually drink ale, more of a lager person and ales are something that as a family we indulge in. Who doesn't love a good beer or four on holiday?! (we're not alcoholics I swear). So I thought I'd share a few of the several we came across, I know these aren't Dorset specific as I have seen a few in supermarkets near me. But enjoy! Ale #1: 'Juarassic' - I've mentioned before I'm quite obsessed with this era so of course as soon as this was spotted we had to get it. It was lovely nonetheless. Ale #2: 'Exmoor Beast' - This one was quite a strong ale in both flavour and percentage. It had quite a kick to it which definitely lives up to it's name! Ale #3: 'Fursty Ferret' - I love the name this has and no the ale is not made from ferrets... ...
